Senior Platform Engineer (m/f/d) MI-DA

As a Senior Platform Engineer (m/f/d), you will be responsible for operating and supporting a Kafka-based event streaming platform. You will handle day-to-day operations, resolve incidents, and ensure the platform remains stable, reliable, and available for internal users. You will work closely with engineering teams, platform owners, and internal customers to maintain system stability, improve performance, and make the platform easier to use through self-service capabilities.

• Operate, monitor, and maintain the Kafka-based messaging platform on AWS/EKS, ensuring high availability, performance, resilience, and scalability.
• Monitor platform health using logs, metrics, and tools such as Grafana and Loki, while identifying performance, capacity, and reliability issues.
• Investigate and resolve incidents across Kafka brokers, producers, and consumers; perform root cause analysis and escalate complex issues when required.
• Participate in L3/on-call rotations and provide reliable production support for critical, highly available distributed systems.
• Execute operational tasks according to runbooks and SOPs, manage Kafka topics, ACLs, and schemas, and continuously improve processes and documentation.
• Act as a key contact for internal platform users, provide technical guidance via collaboration tools, and translate user needs into actionable technical requirements.
• Support GitLab CI/CD pipelines and contribute to infrastructure and configuration automation using GitOps, ArgoCD, and Helm.
• Improve observability, performance, scalability, and operational efficiency while enabling self-service capabilities for authentication, access, and topic management.

• Strong experience with Apache Kafka and its ecosystem, including Kafka Connect and Schema Registry, with a solid understanding of distributed systems, partitioning, replication, scaling, and fault tolerance.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes/container orchestration (preferably EKS) and AWS services such as VPC, EKS, S3, IAM, networking, and PrivateLink.
• Familiarity with Git, GitLab CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and GitOps practices using tools such as Terraform, Helm, and ArgoCD.
• Proven experience in IT/platform/production support, including troubleshooting, incident management, escalation, root cause analysis, runbooks, SOPs, and supporting highly available distributed systems.
• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Mimir, and Alloy (LGTM stack), with the ability to analyze system performance, latency, throughput, logs, and metrics.
• Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, or Go, with experience automating infrastructure and operational tasks, managing Kafka clusters, topics, ACLs, schemas, and data contracts.
• Understanding of asynchronous communication and event-driven architectures, with basic Java knowledge and exposure to cloud-native platforms, container tooling, data integration, and large-scale messaging systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent English communication, customer-focused approach, effective cross-team collaboration, and a proactive mindset toward automation, continuous improvement, and learning.
